I met with Kayla today for a consultation and PT session and wanted to share some of her story with you because I’m really excited about working with her!
Kayla did some PT sessions with me earlier this year when she decided that she wanted to improve her health and fitness. As part of that journey, she started dance as a way to incorporate cardio into her routine. What started off as a fun way to burn calories has become something she’s truly passionate about, and after spending time interstate with some elite dancers, she has decided that she wants to improve her fitness and athleticism in order to take her performances to the next level.
Currently Kayla is doing hip hop, but wants to get into break-dancing next year, so as well as working on cardio-vascular fitness, stability, core control and balance we are also going to work on improving her power and plyometric ability and getting her body-weight down so that she can pull of some really cool, explosive dance moves!
I love it when people, especially women, find an athletic pursuit which is about more than looking good. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that we should all exercise for good health and to stay in shape, but it really is special to be part of someone’s journey when their training becomes part of a goal which involves challenge, self-expression, progression, learning and performance. The best motivation of all is to find something that you love and would continue to do six days a week even if you were in the best shape of your life.
Kayla is a busy swimming instructor and uni student, so we decided the best plan for her was to meet with me once a month, and for her to follow exercise programs created specifically for her in her own time between our consultations. Kayla is also going to be using my Online Nutrition program which will help her to plan her meals and avoid making poor food choices when she is on the run, and to make sure that I can keep an eye on what she’s eating and give her online support between our sessions!
Stay tuned over the coming months for updates on Kayla’s progress and achievements in dance!
